To match, or not to match?
To match, or not to match?
That is the question the Jazz must decide this week regarding C.J. Miles, who signed a four-year, $15 million offer sheet from Oklahoma City last Friday.
Miles is a restricted free agent, and Utah has until the end of the week to decide if it will keep him or let him join his second NBA team.
Miles was a second-round draft choice of the Jazz’s in 2005 out of Dallas Skylike High School, and ‘ though he has started 13 games each of the past two seasons ‘ the 21-year-old swingman never has been able to establish himself as a rotation regular for coach Jerry Sloan.
Yet the Jazz were willing to bring Miles back for a fourth season in Utah, at the right price.
It remains to be seen, though, if they’d be willing to do so at financial terms set by the former Seattle Sonics franchise.
If the decision not to match Milwaukee’s offer to second-round draft choice Mo Williams back in 2004 is any indication, they will not.
Never mind that Williams turned himself into a $50-plus million (over six seasons) starting point guard with the Bucks.
So what should the Jazz do in this instance ‘ protect their three-year investment in Miles, or risk watching him develop with a division rival?
You make the call.
