Trimmer Williams 'weighs in' on slimming fashion, lessons learned
A gold medal and Great Wall souvenirs weren’t the only things Deron Williams brought back with him from China.
The Jazz point guard apparently also brought back a few spare pounds. But with training camp a week away, Williams’ weight is down and his fitness level is up.
Williams smiled when asked by a reporter at his charity golf tournament Monday if he’d shed some weight or if his dark-hued golf attire just made him appear to be thinner.
“I’ve slimmed down a little bit,” he admitted, “but black, I think, makes you look slimmer.”

Williams talked about something else he brought back from Beijing — some lessons from Team USA’s gold-medal experience. He believes the “Redeem Team” had some redeeming qualities that can help the Jazz.
“There’s a lot we can take away from that team — how hard we played, how we competed, how we had each other’s backs,” he said. “I think we won the gold medal defensively. … If we’re going to win an NBA championship, we (have) got to realize that’s where we’re going to do it is on the defensive end.”
Somewhere a certain coach — perhaps riding a tractor in Illinois — is smiling.

Sorry, Forrest, but life is not like a box of chocolates for at least one Jazz player.
Like all participants of Williams’ charity golf tournament, backup point guard Ronnie Price was offered chocolate treats when he entered the Thanksgiving Point Golf Course clubhouse on Monday.
Price politely declined, and not because he’s watching what he eats to stay in tip-top shape. Turns out, he simply doesn’t like chocolate.
Yep, he’s the one.
While walking away from the check-in table, Price said with a smile that it would have been a whole ‘nother story if peanut butter had been offered.

Being a professional basketball player certainly has its benefits and pluses.
Who’da thunk becoming an improved and avid golfer would be among them?
But that’s the case for Williams, who earmarks some of his spare time and sums from his NBA paychecks to enjoy his hobby.
My, how things have changed for the Jazz’s point guard, who was as excited to chat about golf as he was basketball Monday at the second-annual Deron Williams Celebrity Golf Classic.
