Wishing the Jazz game was on TV
Right now it’s 4:58 p.m. on a snowy Sunday afternoon and I’m watching an NFL football game. Not a bad option. Much better, in fact, than what fellow D-Newsers Brad Rock, Dirk Facer, August Miller and I did the past 4 months, er, 24 hours while traveling back from the University of Utah football game in Laramie, Wyo.
Not to bore you with our travel itinerary, but thanks to Mother Nature’s early winter present, we spent 5 hours moving ZERO MPH on I-80 in western Wyoming last night, 1 hour in a smoky bar in Point of Rocks, Wyo., population 18, including a pit bull that apparently likes the smell of my leg and a shaved-headed dude who told me he used to dress as a nun and sell pot to school kids, 3.5 hours sleeping in Little America — the town and the hotel — and a bunch of other hours of fun driving, checking out jack-knifed semis (hope you’re all OK), looking for non-no-vacancy motels or vacant homes, and 1 hour eating greasy grub served by a Wyoming waitress named “Fluffy” (who, by the way, was a pure delight).
Quite the glamorous gig, eh?
Anyway, back to my blog about watching TV …. Honestly, I’d rather be watching the Utah Jazz play the Portland Trail Blazers in their preseason match-up right now. I wanted a first glance at Greg Oden and company this year. And I was supposed to be able to — until the other day when the Jazz and KJZZ pulled the plug on their hyped-up pledge to get every game onto TV this year.
I understand scheduling conflicts forced them to change plans — or something like that — but I was looking forward to watching that NBA preseason game instead of the Dallas Cowboys or the “Paid Programming” currently being televised on KJZZ. Plus, as a DISH satellite subscriber on the lowest package — meaning I don’t have Fox Sports stations — this was one of only 23 games available to me this season and preseason.
Oh well, at least I’m no longer in the rented SUV looking at the back of Dirk’s head (no offense intended to the back of Dirk’s head, of course) or staring for hours and hours and hours at Wyoming.
So am I the only one who was going to watch today’s game?
