Koufos might want to keep his day job
While fans and Jerry Sloan have been getting a kick out of watching 19-year-old Kosta Koufos play pretty well as a rookie, his teammates have been getting a kick out of reminding him there’s a price to pay for being a rookie.
Last week, Deron Williams booted some basketballs into the stands after shootaround and had Koufos fetch them. Some teammates had a good laugh when Koufos couldn’t quite figure out how to retrieve a ball from the upper bowl because some doors were apparently locked.
He ended up needing an EnergySolutions Arena employee to help him find the ball up there.
Koufos’ latest rookie initiation came after Saturday night’s win over Detroit. With a dozen or so media members hanging out in the locker room for postgame interviews, Koufos had to sing “Happy Birthday” to Jazz assistant trainer Brian Zettler.
Here’s hoping Zettler had a good birthday anyway. Let’s just say Koufos won’t be heading to Hollywood with “American Idol” anytime too soon. Paula Abdul wouldn’t say it like this, but Koufos can definitely hold his own on the court much better than he can carry a tune.
Jarron Collins gave a Simon-esque remark to the b-day diddy that made me laugh.
“Do it again,” Collins said from his locker. “This time with feeling.”
