One really bad habit

TORONTO – If there was one especially bad habit the Jazz picked up when two-time All-Star power forward Carlos Boozer missed 44 straight games with left-leg injuries earlier this season, it was overdependence on outside shooting.
When Boozer sat out Sunday in Toronto due to a sprained right ankle, the Jazz were able to beat the struggling Raptors.
But Sloan noticed the old habit creeping back, and suggested afterward it’s something he wants his team to avoid as it continues a five-game trip with Tuesday night’s visit to Indiana.
“It looked like we were going to stay on the perimeter all night long,” he said after what was actually an early Sunday day that – perhaps because of what was watching – seemed as if it lasted well into the evening.
“We got satisfied staying out there,” Sloan added, suggesting that in this instance they got away with something that can soon catch up with them. “You don’t win games – tough games – always being on the perimeter. You’ve got to give yourself a chance to make three-point plays (the old-fashioned way), and that’s where Boozer’s (absence has hurt).”
Boozer, by the way, is being called a “game-time decision” by the Jazz for Tuesday’s game against the sub-.500 Pacers.
