It makes some sense … sort of
SAN ANTONIO – It made no sense to Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan.
Playing so well on defense in last Sunday’s victory at New Orleans, then doing just the opposite in Wednesday’s 29-point loss at Dallas, makes little sense, either, to assistant coach Phil Johnson.
But Johnson – who filled at today’s morning shootaround for an ill Sloan, who is expected to work tonight’s game at San Antonio – does have something to offer by way of explanation.
Or at least some possible theories.
Sort of.
“I attribute it a lot to being a young team that maybe loses their concentration a little bit,” Johnson said.
“I don’t know. I don’t have answers for it,” he added in the same breath. “It’s a different team, too. Dallas played well against us. New Orleans didn’t play particularly well against us.”
As for the Spurs, he does expect them to play quite well tonight – especially in light of their loss Wednesday, when they blew an early 19-point lead.
That’s despite being without injured Manu Ginobili, and despite star Tim Duncan’s sore knees (he’s expected to play tonight) getting all the headlines in San Antonio this week.
“I’m sure they’re not in a great mood after getting beat the other night,” Johnson said. “We’ll see what we can do. We’ve got to come back and play better than we did the other night. That’s all I know.”
