BYU fans, save a swig for D-Will

On his Twitter account, Deron Williams made a funny honor-code-worthy post regarding 20th-ranked BYU’s shocking 14-13 victory over third-ranked Oklahoma.

The tweet from @D_Will_8_4real was put up Saturday night:

“Get ur Ginger Ale ready it’s going down in Provo!”

Williams, who apparently is in Texas, also wrote that he must be a good husband because family members in the Dallas area went to the game, but not him. He wanted to, but accompanied his wife at a wedding rehearsal instead.

If Williams wasn’t happy just for his Utah-based fans who root for the Y., he might’ve been excited about the outcome because of his college loyalties. He went to Illinois but also pulls for the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma’s rival, because he grew up in Dallas.

D-Will did make it to Utah’s season-opening 35-17 win over Utah State and was seen roaming the sidelines at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

It’s highly unlikely Kosta Koufos followed or tweeted about BYU’s win. He is in Poland today, where his Greece team is gearing up for their first game of the European basketball championships.

Koufos is a dual U.S.-Greek citizen who recently survived the final roster cut for the squad of his parents’ native country. Now 20, he tore it up for Greece in the Under-18 championships a couple of years ago and is likely to see playing time.

Koufos is the only Jazz player participating in EuroBasket2009. Greece begins its round-robin play against F.Y.R. of Macedonia Monday, and then plays Israel on Tuesday and Croatia on Wednesday.
