So, what will Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor remember most about the Europe trip?

Big Ben? Spain’s Royal Palace? Fancy foreign food?

“That shot that that kid made at the buzzer,” O’Connor grumbled with a half-grin. “You keep score, you want to win the game.”

That kid he was referring to, of course, was Bulls rookie James Johnson and the shot was the fade-away 16-footer that he swished at the buzzer to give Chicago a 102-101 victory over the Jazz at The O2 Arena last Tuesday in London.

Aside from that painful memory, O’Connor gained an appreciation for what his team’s international players have to deal with different cultures and languages.

“I think it’s really unbelievable to experience that,” he said. “You want to find a place and you go, ‘Uh, uh, uh, excuse … you can’t speak the language and they don’t speak English and they’re not supposed to, we’re in their country. I thought that was something you’ve got to remind yourself. We tried not to be ugly Americans over there and I think people seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Though the schedule was packed and Utah spent most of two full days – of its six-day trip – in the air between the U.S. and Europe, there was some down time for touristy stuff.

O’Connor said that he, Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson all went to the Winston Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms while they were in England last week.
