Showdown at the D.C. Corral

Did you see the New York Post story out of Washington about Gilbert Arenas and his teammate, Javaris Crittenton?

My one-word and five-exclamation-mark reaction: WOW!!!!!

Long story short: The two allegedly had an argument about a gambling debt (red flag No. 1), then Gilbert Arenas brandished a gun (red flag No. 2) and then Crittenton pulled out the heat he was packing (red flag No. 3) during a dispute (red flag No. 4).

Yeah, and this all apparently happened INSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM (red flag No. 5).

Glad the Post pointed out the irony of how the pistol-pointing showdown (allegedly) happened between two players on the franchise formerly known as the Washington Bullets.

(On a side not, this story would be hilarious had the two Wizards pulled out wands, instead of guns, and had a Harry Potter-Draco Malfoy standoff: “Gamblingiarmus Paymebackiarmus Prontoiarmus!!!”)

It’s an outrageous story, and I hope – if reported accurately – that the punishment is severe from local authorities, the league and the team. (“Expelliarmus Fromtheleagueiarmus!”)

(On another side note: It makes you wonder how many NBA reporters across the league will now think twice before asking tough questions to players in locker rooms. Yikes. Yes, I’m kidding, but you can bet the image-conscious league is going to do some heavy-duty damage control after this story.)
