Guess who's ranked No. 1?
Stop the presses! Or tell the Webmaster to end his coffee break early!
Guess who ESPN stat guru John Hollinger has ranked No. 1 in the entire National Basketball Association right now?
The Lakers? Cavaliers? Nuggets? Nets?
Surprisingly that’d be nope, nuh-uh, negatory and bwhahahaha! And if you think I was nuts for writing the Nets, you might think I’m also a bit wacky for writing this:
How about your Utah Jazz?
Bingo!
Utah’s wild, wild 124-115 win over Phoenix helped the Jazz move up ahead of both the No. 2 Lakers and the third-place Cavs — and 27 other teams — to claim the numero uno spot in the Hollinger Power Rankings. (Hey, if you don’t believe me click on this link here, but do it fast because it might change by tomorrow.)
That 33-point win over New Jersey also did the Jazz’s ranking a favor. Hollinger uses average margin of victory/defeat as a big determining factor in his methodology. How teams have fared most recently also weighs heavily into his rankings, and the Jazz have simply been on fire lately with a bunch of impressive wins in seven of their last eight games.
If that’s not enough to get you excited about where the team’s headed, Utah has also stormed into the No. 4 spot out West.
That, after being No. 6 on Monday and in the outside-looking-in ninth and 10th positions in recent weeks.
OK, restart the presses.
