Super Bowl, Boozer and Bling

Saturday was a big win for the Utah Jazz. Not only that, but it was Carlos Boozer’s first game back after missing three with a sprained right calf.

Yet the first thing that came out of the power forward’s mouth — before any of the reporters could fire off a question in the locker room after the Jazz’s 116-106 win over Denver, mind you — was about Super Bowl XXXXIV.

To answer the song, yes, Booz is ready for some football.

“We got a huge game tomorrow,” Boozer said yesterday speaking about today’s game while using the proverbial “we” that includes all of humanity. “Make sure y’all don’t miss it.”

The Jazz are off today, so Boozer certainly won’t miss it.

“We’ve got Peyton Manning. Greatness,” Boozer said. “We’ve got Drew Brees. Greatness.”

Boozer did not go position-by-position to tell us every match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, which would’ve made deadline even more fun.

He didn’t exactly divulge his pick, either — or what chip-and-dip combo he’s most looking forward to chowing down.

“That’s hard,” he replied. “I’m a huge football fan, and it’s very hard to go against Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl. Every game the Colts tried to win this year, they won.

“Now,” he continued, “if the Saints win it they deserve it. They’re a great team. Drew Brees has been probably the best quarterback in football this season, hands down.
But it’s hard to go against Peyton Manning.”

Go ahead, ask him: What’s this Mr. Boozer?

“That’s bling bling, my man.”

Oops. Wrong conversation. Back to this year’s Super Bowl-related question: So, how hard is it to pick against Eli’s big brother?

“It’s like going against Derek Jeter in the (playoffs). You know what I mean? It’s just hard to do that. Something great — he’s just greatness. He’s as accurate as it comes.”

Speaking of Mr. Boozer, jewelry and the Super Bowl, remember this classic commercial from XLIII? Ah, good times from ’09 …
