Othyus: Rodman saved the day

Here’s where Q&As (that didn’t make the final cut for Monday’s Jazz Extra) with 10-day-contract guys happen. Now up: Othyus Jeffers …

Q: Did you ever imagine wearing Utah Jazz gear growing up in Chicago?

A: Nooo. (He did once wear an NBA Finals shirt he had when he was a young Bulls fan back in the late ’90s.) That’s the only Jazz symbol I ever had on my clothes.

Q: Do you remember a lot about the Jazz-Bulls series?

A: It was really big at that time because (John) Stockton and (Karl) Malone, they was real big. It was like it was time for them to knock (Michael) Jordan and (Scottie) Pippen off the horse. But, you know, we had (Dennis) Rodman, so we was OK.

Q: Is that who you model your game after … Rodman?

A: No. (Laughs) He was always a fun sight. He always gave you something that made you want to come back to the next game, whether it was grabbing at Karl Malone’s ankle and hollering at fans and running to the third row and slapping hands. … Growing up as a kid, that was fun to watch, even though you look at it today (and know) it was wrong. You’d get fined today if you do it, but I guess Rodman had his own set of rules.
