Jazz tidbits from Seat 5C
A few thoughts while waiting for a flight back to Salt Lake City:
- Jazz fans might not take a Game 6 victory for granted even after hearing that Nuggets center Nene might have torn the ACL in his left knee, as a source told the Denver Post might be the case. Denver played better, much better, in the second half Wednesday night and put up a massive 69 points after the unfortunate injury.
- You’d think Denver players would catch on to a significant statistic in their favor. The Nuggets posted a 44-7 record this past season when dishing out at least 20 assists. That’s how many assists they had in the Game 5 blowout win after only totaling only 25 assists in the losses in Salt Lake City. The Jazz were outassisted for one of the rare times, finishing with just 19 dimes.
- I wrote the story for Tuesday’s editions about Deron Williams calling himself the best point guard in the league. And, quite frankly, he has been. Here’s what he had to say when I asked who he’d put at No. 2 (and other reporter inquired about the bronze medalist):
“No. 2 point guard? CP (Chris Paul), just like he probably thinks he’s the best and I’m No. 2.”
And third?
“Steve Nash, you got to argue him — what he’s doing at this age is just crazy. I feel like he had been the best point guard for the first probably three, four years that I was in the league.”
- A lot of people at the Pepsi Center wore a pin with the popular Jim Valvano saying on it: “Don’t give up … don’t ever give up!”
- The Jazz lost for the first time this season on TNT (8-1) and with Kyrylo Fesenko in the starting lineup (8-1).
