Hayward tidbits
MAITLAND, Fl. — A few leftover tidbits from Gordan Hayward’s first day of summer-league play with the Jazz:

Unlike most players with the Jazz’s summer-league team, Hayward said he’s actually gained weight during during two-a-day mini-camp workouts leading up to the Orlando Pro Summer League.
He wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but did say he plans to start a regimented strength-gaining program shortly after summer play concludes.

Hayward admitted to some nerves in his debut, an 85-83 loss to Charlotte in which he scored eight points, hit 2-for-2 from the field and made 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
“It was good to just get out there,” he said.
“I was a little nervous going out there, but I think after time you kind of see ‘this is how it’s gonna be,’ ” Hayward added. “It got better as the game went on, and I think it will continue to get better as the week goes on.”

Hayward was pleased with the performance.
“I thought I played hard,” he said. “That’s all you can.”
The 20-year-old was especially happy with how moved the ball around and got others involved.

And finally …
At his introductory news conference in Utah late last month, Hayward apologized for being dressed only a brand-new shirt, tie and dress pants.
His luggage didn’t make it with him from New York, where he attended the NBA Draft.
Today, Hayward said his bags did catch up with him — later that same night.
