Jeremy Evans' preseason dunk of the century

For the first time in my career, I was tempted to write an 800-word game story on one Jeremy Evans play from Wednesday night’s game.

And I’m not talking about the wild throw he made late in the fourth quarter as the Jazz almost threw away a 92-89 victory over Portland.

His rim-punishing throw down on the Gerald Wallace is what I’m talking about.

If you haven’t seen it, stop everything and watch this NOW (and good luck just watching it once):

(Having watched that video a few times – and kudos for nbavideosnow2 for getting it on YouTube about a minute after the dunk, which has to be a record – I’m curious how the announcer finished this final cut-off sentence, “We said earlier that guy’s got …” Any guesses?)

Not surprisingly, Jeremy Evans –a.k.a. Elevator Evans or Pogo Evans or Jumpin’ Jeremy or whatever the cool kids are calling him nowadays – quickly trended on Twitter in Salt Lake City.

Deservingly so. I couldn’t help but play along with these tweets:

Blake Griffin wears Jeremy Evans pajamas.

The NBA Dunk Contest just fined tonight’s referees for calling an offensive foul on Jeremy Evans. #chargethis

Jeremy Evans dunked so hard his braces ended up in the 17th row.

I especially loved how Jeremy Evans called Gerald Wallace “KIA!” while posterizing him.

Jeremy Evans should dunk his free throws.

Jeremy Evans just had the greatest offensive foul in Jazz preseason history.
